The Cleopatra label's American '80s Hair Metal collection spans an unnecessary two-discs, chronicling the era of ultimate excess with more live and re-recorded versions of pop-metal classics than originals. For every radio favorite like Autograph's "Turn Up the Radio," the Bulletboys' "Smooth Up in Ya," and Lita Ford's "Kiss Me Deadly," there are two or three "live" or re-recorded tracks ("Round and Round" by Ratt, a Bret Michaels solo version of Poison's "Nothin' But a Good Time," Jetboy doing the AC/DC classic "You Shook Me All Night Long").
