Led Zeppelin's reunion for an Ahmet Ertegun tribute concert in November 2007 (pushed back a couple of weeks due to a finger injury Jimmy Page sustained during rehearsals) seemed like a spur of the moment thing -- but how spontaneous could it have been if it just happened to coincide with the release of an expanded The Song Remains the Same on both CD and DVD, the debut of their catalog as digital downloads, and the new two-disc compilation Mothership as a sampler of the whole shebang? Considering this full-scale, multi-prong assault -- which also included a new album by Robert Plant, after all -- it was probably not all that spontaneous. Such a precise attack suits this most mythic of classic rock groups, who always benefited from an enormous sense of scale. Weighing in at two discs and 24 tracks, Mothership has a sense of scale that the previous round of compilations -- the two-part Early Days & Latter Days, delivered in 1999 and 2000 respectively -- lacked, not just because it pushes these two phases together but because it is heavy on the heavy epics, emphasizing Zeppelin's sheer sonic ballast over either their lighter or more idiosyncratic moments. This effects the second disc more than the first, as the band started out heavy and expanded outward, and while it would have been nice if "Fool in the Rain" represented In Through the Out Door instead of "In the Evening," this is a minor quibble as Mothership hits the obvious high points without seeming perfunctory. And that, along with Page's new remastering, is the real selling point behind Mothership: as a compilation it is both gripping listening and a good introduction to this very album-oriented band, which is what makes it a welcome addition to their catalog. [The deluxe edition of Mothership contains a DVD with highlights from their eponymous live DVD -- it's a nice bonus but really, you'd be better off getting the full set.] ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

Lovin' Plant and Page
I went to see these guys...on the bus in B'ham Alabam and met them. I had free water and BEER the entire show at the BJCC. I did the lighting for Good Times, Bad Times. I went back stage after and partied, until the guys retired for the night. Glad to see some new collections.

Zep rocks
I saw Zeppelin at the old Spectrum in Philadelphia and also at the Garden in NYC. Both times were the best concerts I ever saw. Impossible to describe being there. First off you felt like part of a chosen few, since tix were so hard to get. And then the lights went down and the place went crazy! The concert I saw Saturday night on VH1 Classics captures all of the raw intensity of Zeppelin. Simply amazing, 30 years later.

Domes and Rap and Mothership...Oh My!
I eagerly await the release of Mothership. I saw Led Zeppelin perform "live" 30 years ago (I was 15). It was the first concert in The Kingdome in Seattle, WA and "The Dome" was predicted by some (necktie wearing types) to crack and crumble. Obviously it didn't, or I wouldn't be passing this on. The concert hooked me and I have been a HUGE fan of "All Things Zeppelin" since. Unfortunately, my 4 children have grown up in an era of rap, and while I won't "Dis" their music-style, I only wish they had a better appreciation of what "true" music and Classic Rock is. Lord knows, I've tried. Of course, MY parents probably thought the same of me in comparing my genre of music with their Big Band Era style. Sorry dad, but I'll take Jimmy Page over Benny Goodman any day. In closing, let me just say (with my trusty Bic held high)...Long Live Rock! Peace..I'm out.

Upset
Only 20 here and love Zeppelin, very upset about not being 21 and unable to enter the contest. Guess I'll have to wait for their next reunion show...If ever. Mothership will have to satisfy me though. Can not wait! Rap is not even music, there is nothing original in that genre anymore: just girls, bling, cars, drugs, and their supposed "soldiers" that are incarcerated. It is rather sad that the true aspect of skill that involves making music died years ago. It may take some degree of skill to make a phat bass line that "thumps" those subs in your cars, however there is no music in that. The only "new" band that I will even listen to would be Coheed Cambria because of their tremendous instrumental skill. It is good to see that some of these "older" bands, still have life in them and are determined to have their music heard.

amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am 13 years old and I am amazed by Led Zeppelin! I am a drummer and wish to someday be like Jason Bohnam. They are all amazimg and there new album will be great but, I wish they would go on one last world tour. My dad is the one who got me into Led Zeppelin. They are so much better than rap which = crap. its simply amazing!!!!!

  Paul Shaar from Jacksonville, Fla.
Experienced them Live in 1973
Saw them in Jacksonville,Florida in 1973, Monday night, tickets were am amazing $6.00 or $6.50! That was a little steep at the time,"trippin' on a school night. They came out, had all the mirrors behind them, Jimmy Page was all in black, they "flip-flopped" the two songs on side one on the "ZOSO" album. Rock and Roll and then Black Dog. The rest of the concert was in pure "technicolor"

EQUALS!!
Every band has been known for their front man, guitarist, keyboard, drummer, ect... Morrison, with The Doors. Neil Peirt of Rush, Clapton and Cream. With Led Zeppelin, like The Beatles, you had four guys playing with their equals. Obviously we have all focused on Page/Plant. The two of them stood out as diamonds. But with our ears, it was Bohnam and Jones that were the backbone of that incredible band. Equals amongst themselves....superior to all others!!

  L J R from HAGERSTOWN MD
WHAT MORE CAN I SAY? IT'S LED ZEPPELIN!!
I HOPE I WIN THESE TICKETS FOR MY SON'S BDAY! HE IS A HUGE, HUGE ZEPPELIN FAN --- THIS WOULD A DREAM FOR HIM. HE HAD HIS OWN BAND 'HOT ROD OTIS' NOW PLAYS IN ANOTHER. HIS BAND WAS INVITED TO PARTICIPATE IN A TRIBUTE TO HONOR U-2 AND QUEEN ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO, AS AN UNSIGNED BAND. HE HAS NEVER GIVEN UP HIS DREAM TO PLAY PROFESSIONALLY. NOT BECAUSE I'M HIS MOM, HE IS TRULY A GREAT MUSICIAN! WISH ME LUCK --- WHAT A 43-RD BDAY PRESENT!! LOVE YA HONEY!

W O W !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
O M G,I can not believe what I just read......!!!!! I LOVE this band,I was part of the kids growing up in the 70's and I have been wanting to see this AWESOME group since!! It has been a l o n g wait.. I did buy a poster at a c.d./poster shop,"Wild Bore".. in San Antonio,my youngest son's(20) basic training took place there,he is in the USAF!!) I have the poster on my wall(36x48),and an old (1977)"Rolling Stone" magazine cover, framed,of course....in my living room.I LOVE THIS MUSIC AND THE WAY THEY PRESENT IT,THEY ARE AWESOME!!!!!!!!! I get goose bumps everytime I listen to them play,I mostly love "Ocean",it is a beautiful song!!!I have a son JoJO(28)that loves this band just as much as I do,he plays guitar, and is pretty good himself,(very good guitarist,if I may say so myself...)I made sure my kids grew up with this music as well,I thought that they would appreciate it,and they have,(I knew they would....)Thank you for the opportunity to go see them!!!!!!!!!!!

  Terry Johnson from Cadillac, Mi.
I can't wait!!
Alan, I couldn't agree with you more regarding rap. It's the worst thing to happen to music since......well, the beginning of music. The Mothersip looks like it will be great, I just gotta wonder why they wouldn't include "The Ocean". It's my favorite Zeppelin tune.

  Alan Hoff from Seminole, FL
Geez....I hope I win those tix!
If it's Led Zepplin, it has to be great! The Mothership will land soon...the quicker the better! One of the top classic rock bands of all time, if not the best! It's too bad Bonham passed before his time like other great rocker's: Hendrix, Joplin, Morrison, etc...the list goes on! Classic Rock is the only music I listen to, or ever will. Today's music for the greater part...especially rap/hip-hop/gangsta is incredibly awful! I used to think (death before Disco), I still do but the aforementioned music is absolutely horrendous!!!
