Tom Green will forever be best known for waking up his parents in the wee hours of the morning and drinking milk from a cow's udder. But besides being his gonzo TV personality, Green's appreciation of rap stretches back even further (see his early-'90s rap outfit, Organized Rhyme). As a result, his return to the genre with 2005's Prepare for Impact shouldn't come as a surprise to longtime fans. While the majority of hip-hop circa the 21st century has become quite parody-riddled (how many more tough guy foolers -- with Texas-sized libidos -- talking about "representing" and "beefs" are listeners going to have to deal with?), Green expectedly opts for the more light-hearted side of rapping and rhyming. And that's what ultimately makes such tracks as the album-opening "Write Rhymes and Act Like an Asshole" and "Science Is Everywhere" such guilty yet goofy pleasures. That said, Green approaches "Bloodhound Gang territory" several times, especially on such silly ditties as "I Like Hooters" and "Don't Mess with a Man (After He Takes A Big Poo Poo)." Overall, however, fans of Green's TV personality are sure to get a kick out of Prepare for Impact, and any hip-hop artist willing to rap outside of done-to-death topics deserves a warm pat on the back. ~ Greg Prato, All Music Guide
