Sounds of the Eighties: 80's Blockbusters gathers up 18 big hits from the decade of leg warmers, architecturally challenged hairdos, whopping banks of synthesizers, and one-hit wonders. The tracks are all lightweight and fun, no hard rock or angry punk, no hair metal or rap. There are peppy new wave tracks by the Go-Go's ("Vacation"), Madness ("Our House"), and Toni Basil ("Mickey"); good-natured radio-rock tracks by the J. Geils Band ("Centerfold"), Foreigner ("Urgent"), and Tommy Tutone ("867-5309/Jenny"); and easy listening favorites by Mr. Mister ("Kyrie"), Starship ("Sara"), and Belinda Carlisle ("Mad About You"). The disc plays like 70 minutes' worth of a good '80s oldies radio station and will be the hit of any 20-year high-school reunion party. The packaging could have been a bit more splashy, but hey, it's Time Life after all. ~ Tim Sendra, All Music Guide
