Raving & Drooling Nov 08, 2011
By Puffany I already give the original album 5 stars and it's been reviewed a zillion times. The interest here is in the 2nd disc. After hearing a few bootlegs from the Wish You Were Here tour over the years, I'm already familiar with the 2 tracks `Raving & Drooling' & `You've Got To Be Crazy', which were renamed when they finally appeared on the Animals album released in 1977. To me, the intensity and energy of those tracks performed live on the WYWH tour were the highlights of that tour. This live recording of Shine, Raving & Crazy is amazing. The performances are top-notch and the audio is so clean and fresh to the ears - you can't beat this for a live 1974 recording. I wasn't sure of what to expect because of some live discs I've heard included in Deluxe albums released by other artists that were hardly better than an average bootleg. This will blow you away - turn it up!! Wine Glasses - can't tell you much about it except that it doesn't offend the ears. The alternate versions of Have a Cigar & Wish You Were Here are of real interest for any hardcore fan. Roger & the boys supply the vocals on this version of Have a Cigar. Waters didn't think his vocals were right for this track at the time. Roy Harper happened to be recording an album at the same studios at the time, so Floyd asked him for his assistance for the original album version. The actual structure of Wish You Were Here is different, let alone a different lead at the start from Gilmour. Add to that the violin solo played by French jazz violinist Stephane Grappelli up high in the mix as a lead instrument, and you have something very different from the familiar version.
Pros and Cons of disc 2: Pros: the whole of disc 2 is what a lot of us fans have prayed for. Cons: not enough live material. It would've been awesome to have the whole Wembley gig, warts and all.
Excellent release.

Now this is worth the money Nov 09, 2011
By N. Gibbons WYWH is actually one of my favourite Floyd albums , so after reading about how it was going to released as part of the Immersion series along with DSotM and The Wall i was real happy . Then i got DSotM in the Immersion set .......... not happy . You can read my review of it here on Amazon . So i withdrew my order of WYWH Immersion and went with the Experience version . EXCELLENT ! In all reality , the bells and whistles in the Immersion set just are NOT worth it . Unless you are a total Floyd "gotta have everything" fan or just an anal audiophile its just a lot of money for a series of discs you are not going to listen to and a whole bunch of cheap chintz . The Experience version is a great addition to any Floyd fan because this is really all you need . The album is remastered by James Guthrie . Its clear and resonant . It just sounds so clean and when i send it through my Yamaha 5.1 enhanced it sounds awesome ....... engulfed in sound . The second disc is an eye opener . The live tracks from Wembley take you back to another era . I don't want a to "clean" mix from the desk , it needs to sound dirty ..... to be live , and it doesn't disappoint . Great to hear these songs as they start to evolve into what they will finally be on Animals . The stand out for me on disc 2 is of course Stefan Grappeli playing WYWH . A totally different way to hear the track and a total pleasure . If you want to really hear this album , this is the way to do it . Save your dollars and cents , the Immersions are just not well thought out and not worth the money . $20 or $120 ? You decide ..... but this was mine and i'm more than happy with the result ...... and so's my wallet .

A must have in any Floyd Collection Nov 09, 2011

I consider myself a highly knowledgable Floyd fan. I have a huge collection of LPs, studio and some great bootlegs. The inclusion on this CD of Raving & Drooling and You Gotta Be Crazy puts this way over the top.
If you even have a passing interest in Floyd, the Wish You Were Here era shows a moving away from the pre-Dark Side sound into the Gilmour guitar driven tracks. Its a maturity era for the Floyd as they are riding the wave of the Dark Side of the Moon.
Floyd has always been a live band with some epic live performances. The growth in popularity following Dark Side, however, forced the Floyd from comfortable smaller venues into Stadiums. This era, this shift, is captured so well in the live versions of Raving & Drooling and You've Gotta Be Crazy - tracks which saw much change before being recorded in the Studio for Animals.
The remastered Alternate version of Wish You Were Here completely changes the way the song is perceived. Its blues origins are so much more evident with the accompanying violin. Get This.

Latest remaster of Pink Floyd classic worth picking up again for the second disc if nothing else Nov 09, 2011
By WTDK
"If at first the idea is not absurd, then there is no hope for it.-Albert Einstein"
Although it's not their best selling album, "Wish you Were Here" is among Pink Floyd's finest achievements. Roger Waters used the disintegration of bandmate and original Pink Floyd leader Syd Barrett as the focal point for this album.
The "Experience" edition is a nice compromise for those who already have the album in one form or another but don't want to pony up for the expensive "Immersion" set and want the 1974 live performances of "Shine On Your Crazy Diamond", "Raving and Drooling" and "You've Got To Be Crazy" (the latter two which eventually ended up retitled with different lyrics on "Animals")recorded live at Wembley included here as well as the alternate take of "Wish You Were Here" featuring jazz violinist Stephane Grappelli, an alternate take of "Have A Cigar" as well as an outtake from the abandoned "Household Objects" album wish gives us a tantilizing glimpse of what might have been for the instrumental "Wine Glasses". The second disc of live/outtakes will be essential for fans although it might have been nice to release ALL the unfinished "Household Objects" takes even though they are incomplete.
The mastering is very good with James Gutherie avoiding the brickwalling common with many CD versions of albums out there today. Even the original album sounds quite good here although I suspect hardcore fans are going to go for the "Immersion" set with the Blu-ray mixes, DVD, etc., or the stand-alone SACD edition of "Wish You Were Here" that is (as of this writing) forthcoming for multi-channel listening pleasure. Nevertheless, if you can't afford those editions, don't want them, this set is a good compromise with the original album and the bonus disc.
The album comes in a cardboard sleeve, a booklet with the original lyrics/photos from the sessions and a slipcase which replicates the original cellophane packaging/sticker on the exterior of the LP version (as I recall).
There aren't any new liner notes about the making of the album and the artwork features variations on some of the familiar photos/artwork we've seen in past editions of the album.
Highly recommended.

Second Disc well worth the price of both! Nov 26, 2011
By Cactus Ed Just like my previous review of the recently released Dark Side Of The Moon double CD I will say here that the second "live" disc of a 1974 Floyd concert in London is beyond excellent. It is priceless. The recording of early versions of Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Gotta Be Crazy and Raving and Drooling is incredibly well-done, perfect mix. Just the four guys in the band working on their art, they sound wonderful. I am especially moved by Richard Wright's trademark Hammond organ work on these live recordings. His musicianship was a huge piece of Pink Floyd's sound, and I miss him still. Some people still clamor for a "Pink Floyd reunion" of David, Roger and Nick, and presumably somebody on keyboards. But there can be no Pink Floyd without Richard Wright, as this live recording clearly shows. A great, great band, and a great CD here. Well done !
